RE: End of the School Year for District 118 Schools on the Traditional Calendar

Dear Danville District 118 Family,

I hope you have been safe during this challenging time.  It was almost two months ago when Governor Pritzker issued an executive order closing all public and private schools in Illinois beginning Tuesday, March 17, 2020.  Since then, we have been faced with many unprecedented changes to our educational program.

We have recently received new guidelines from the Illinois State Board of Education that outlined how we are to credit students for attendance since March 17th.  We were asked to calculate student attendance days based on the new ISBE guidelines with the Regional Office of Education.  When we completed the calculations with the Regional Superintendent on Monday afternoon, we confirmed the following:

    • Last days of the FY20 school year for all traditional calendar schools
  • Traditional Students                   Tuesday, May 19, 2020
      • Traditional Teachers                   Tuesday, May 26, 2020

    • Last days of the FY20 school year for Northeast
      • Balanced (NE) Students           Wednesday, May 13, 2020
      • Balanced (NE) Teachers           Friday, May 15, 2020

I know there were several questions about the early release for Northeast students and staff.  Please remember, Northeast started school on July 19, 2020 and the new ISBE guidelines counts all Act of God days during March 17- March 30th as pupil attendance days.  This gives Northeast credit for two weeks of their spring break.

Principals will begin reaching out to you to finalize the Remote Learning Program and I am certain Ms. Hightower will send additional information shortly.  We will continue providing our concentrated food distribution program to Danville District 118 families who may need this additional support. The food distribution is held at Danville High School, on Tuesdays from 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM.

We will continue to work with the Illinois State Board of Education and the Regional Superintendent to determine how we are to proceed with summer school and the upcoming school year.  We will provide updates via phone messages, letters, Facebook and Twitter as we receive additional direction from them.

In the meantime, please be safe and remember- Together, we will get through this!

Dr.  Alicia M. Geddis
